Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G are here. Amazon has announced their new mainstay Kindle and it has a touch screen. While not available until November 21, 2011, you can pre-order now and reserve your place in line.
Yes there is an even cheaper Kindle, but I just don’t expect that to be near as popular considering one only saves a few bucks on it and there is no touchscreen. (Read about the whole new Kindle family lineup.)

Why A Touchscreen Kindle?
This new electronic reader has no buttons or keyboards, unless you count the on-screen keyboard.
Research showed that Kindle users wanted to be able to read with one hand, so this smaller, lighter Kindle – with the same size screen as the 3rd Generation model – has a new feature called EasyReach — narrow tapzones, about the width of a thumb, that allow the user to quickly flip forward or backward through a book or other document with just one hand.
Touchscreen, Audio, Wi-Fi
Let’s look at the features of the new touchscreen Kindle Touch and Touch 3G. Note that both have Wi-Fi, it’s just that the 3G model has global access to the internet and Amazon’s store and servers via the AT&T cellular network.
- Most-advanced E Ink display, now with multi-touch
- New sleek design – 8% lighter, 11% smaller, holds 3,000 books
- Text-to-speech, plus audio books and mp3s
- Built in Wi-Fi – Get books in 60 seconds
- Massive book selection, over 800,000 titles are $9.99 or less
- New – Borrow Kindle books from your public library
Added Notable Features of the Kindle Touch
- Even longer battery life – 2 months with WiFi off and 1/2 hour of reading per day
- Faster than before, quicker page turning
- EasyReach – Tap to turn pages, no swipe needed
- Never gets hot, unlike most other laptops and tablets
- X-Ray feature; explore the “bones” of a book – With a single tap, see all the passages across a book that mention ideas, fictional characters, historical figures, places or topics of interest, as well as more detailed descriptions from Wikipedia and Shelfari.
It’s just hard to believe how so much can be packed into a handy little device and sold for so little money.
Naturally, Amazon hopes to make money from you on other purchase besides the initial cost of the Kindle Touch or Touch 3G, but then again so does Apple and we all know what they charge (an arm and a leg come to mind).
